making the first bit of furniture

Between the more grotty jobs I like to sprinkle in a fun job to avoid the whole thing turning into ‘work’. For now, this is making daft bits of saloon interior. I’ve built one of two interior foot/sitting stools. It doubles as a storage locker.

It’s my first go at making ‘furniture’ and if you don’t look too hard it’s almost alright! Although it’s not going to win any classic design awards, it’ll be comfy, strong and sturdy enough for one of my fat mates to sit on in the summer.

The interior is going to be a mixture of stained plywood/mahogany and cream/white leather trimmed cushions. The little unit will have a 5cm cushion trimmed in white leather on it.

This unit is about 50cm high and designed to slot together with the sofa to make a decent sized bed in the saloon.

Plenty more interior stuff to come, so you’ll have much more of a chance to laugh later.

Here’s a short video of a mockup design for the interior, sort of looks like a crap minecraft thing, so you’ll have to use your imagination. There are curves in real life…
