Using trello to keep track of boat work

Trello is a web tool I’ve used lots for my work with teams developing web and mobile apps.

It’s makes keeping track of tasks for various things very simple. For Perdita I’ve setup a few simple lists for things like ‘Jobs Planned’ ‘Jobs in Progress’ and ‘Done’.

In the digital day job world we have methodolgies like ‘Agile’ and ‘Scrum’ amongst others which are basically about setting some goals (build a boat) and breaking down those goals into more achievable ever smaller tasks (install an engine, paint the hull). By completing the tasks in short fortnightly cycles called ‘Sprints’ you can test your work, demonstrate progress and even change direction without being beholden to a rigid plan, hence the name ‘Agile’.

The boat is a long way from a global mega money app project but the principals of progress are the same. Set your goals, get a budget, form a team with skills and start building useful things as quickly as possible.

To be fair if this was a true ‘Lean’ (another digital methodology term) project then I’d probably start out building a dinghy and and keep adding wooden features until it turned into a yacht. But luckily it’s not.

Anyway here’s a quick screenshot of Trello on mobile, if you like keeping lists, check it out. It’s largely free.
