She’s a clinker, some history

Perdita 2 has a recent history of fun and mishap, but unfortunately nothing prior to the stories from recent owners.

I’m hoping as time goes on to find out a little more about her, but having asked around, there’s little in her present condition to identify her background. Here’s what I do know.

She’s originally a clinker lifeboat, likely admiralty built from circa 1930s. Her topsides having been fitted much later.

A clinker, not the kind Urban Dictionary describe, is a boat made up of overlapping wooden planks described here. It’s pretty much one of the most established wooden boat building techniques there are.

She’s around 30ft long and there are no markings on her keel to identify her. All her brass fittings etc have come much later, some very recently fitted.

Her engine is again a recent addition, a Chinese/Russian clone diesel 1800cc 40hp unit.

The hull is original or mostly original plank that’s braced along her keel with steel and fibreglass.

Her cabin and newer topsides were fitted and renovated in the last ten years, I have some photos of this work.

If anyone reading this knows anything of her history I’d be grateful to find out more, good or bad!.

Thanks!
