Making a box for the engine cover

The boat came with an old engine cover that had been made many years previously for an engine that was much bigger. It was basically a load of timber nailed and screwed together coated in underlay and carpet to act as sound deadening.

So I thought a nice easy first job would be to make a box to replace it, make it smaller and a tighter fit and insulate it properly.

Here’s a few photos of the work, it still needs varnishing etc, but there’s little point doing that until I’ve completed the rest of the wheelhouse revamp.

For now it’s an improvement and isn’t a huge mass like the old one was to avoid when getting in and out.

The rest of the wheelhouse needs sorting out, the floor repainted and the doors/cabin top completely sanding and varnishing. There’s also the option of working up a wooden enclosed wheelhouse with new windows and doors, or go down a curtain/canvas standard approach.
